If you’re looking for a quick, easy, healthy breakfast or snack, these smoothie recipes are sure to do the trick. Smoothies are a great way to get your daily dose of fruit and vegetables, in one tasty drink. Unlike juicing, smoothies retain the fibre of fruit and vegetables, filling you up and acting a bit like a meal replacement. This makes smoothies ideal for those who don’t really go for traditional breakfast ideas.
While a good smoothie is out of this world as far as taste goes, not all smoothies are created equal. Keep reading to get my favourite smoothie recipes that always work out just perfectly.
Try These Yummy Smoothie Recipes
Get out your blender, prepare that chopping board and get ready to whip up your own tasty creations with these easy smoothie recipes. They can be made in bigger batches and frozen or enjoyed as is for one or two people. You can also adapt all of these recipes to suit your needs. If you use plant milk, like me, try almond or soy milk. If you like your smoothies sweet, add a bit of honey or some dates. You can bulk up your smoothies with oats, chia seeds or flax.
Berry & Beet
Always a winner, this classic smoothie contains a mixture of berries (strawberries, blackberries, red currents, cranberries or blueberries), along with finely chopped, peeled raw beetroot. Frozen berries work especially well. Add berry juice or your milk of choice or sweetener. Power it up with some acai powder and chia seeds.
Blueberry & Apple
Another classic, blueberry gives you a boost of goodness. Frozen blueberries and chopped red apple make up the main flavours in this one, but you can also add protein in the form of spinach, pumpkin seeds or protein powder of your choice. Add in some milk or juice and some chia seeds to thicken the smoothie.
Spinach & Apple
This is one of my favourites. Green apple and spinach keep the smoothie simple and healthy. Add apple juice, celery or any other greens to ramp up the goodness even further or keep it as it is with just your two main ingredients and water or milk. Spinach smoothies are best enjoyed fresh to lock in the nutrients and keep the flavour and colour.
Banana & Oats
Great for mornings, banana and oat smoothies are always a winner. I love to make this for breakfast. It freezes well and keeps in the fridge for a day or so. Add in one or two chopped bananas, half a cup of oats, some chia seeds, milk of your choice, and some plant protein powder, plus a dash of cinnamon for added flavour.
Mango & Peach
I also enjoy this one, especially in the warmer weather. Chopped mango and peach work well with grated carrot. Bright and tasty, this smoothie is packed full of flavour. You can add in some freshly grated turmeric or a dash of turmeric powder and ginger powder to add even more of a punch.
