A Guide to the Sacral Chakra

    Introduction to the Sacral Chakra

    January 22, 2020 · Energy

Continuing our way down the body, the sacral chakra (Svadhishthana) lies at the centre of the pelvic area or lower belly. The second chakra governs sensuality, emotion, relationships, and creativity. This chakra is represented by the colour orange and its symbol is a crescent in a circle.

    Introduction to the Sacral Chakra

Our sensuality is closely linked to creativity. The second chakra harnesses these energies, cultivating passion on a deeper level. It helps us connect not just to our inner selves but also to our sexuality and power. It also helps us forge relationships in a healthy, loving way.

What can we learn from the sacral chakra and how do signs of chakra imbalance manifest? Let’s take a look.

A Guide to the Sacral Chakra

As we have moved downwards through the chakras, we have gone through high consciousness (crown chakra), intuition (third eye chakra), expression (throat chakra), love (heart chakra), and energy (solar plexus chakra). The second chakra is all about empowerment. Self-empowerment, interactions with ourselves and others, the power of choice, sensual pleasure, enjoyment of hobbies, creativity, and personal identity.

Signs that that sacral channel is out of balance could include the following:

    • Dependancy or co-dependancy
    • Substance or alcohol addiction
    • Gambling and high-risk behaviours
    • Being ruled by emotions
    • Being shut off from emotions
    • Overindulgence in sexual fantasies
    • Lack of sensual desire

There are a few ways to balance this chakra. Guided or solo meditation can be a good way to get in tune with your inner self. Journalling and self love exercises are also helpful. You can also try affirmations such as:

I live a life full of pleasure.

I allow my emotions to be balanced and free.

    I embrace my sensuality.

I express and nurture my creativity.

I am comfortable in my own body.

Essential oils for the second chakra include sandalwood, neroli, patchouli, and orange. Crystals include carnelian, tiger’s eye, amber, and coral. An energising yoga sequence will also help you balance this chakra.
